Tyranny of Copyright?

To me, copyright is official on any place such as internet, companies, books, and more. Some people who attempt to steal the ideas, for example Alice Randall’s book “The Wind Done Gone” compares to Mitchell’s “Gone of the Wind.” The books are not the only ones who gets the copyrighted stolen, there are more ways that people steals the copyright in the internet by hacking it. I read this article about the “Tyranny of Copyright?” It is about some illegal acts of the copyright, and it is stealing, invading, and piracy. In this article, there is a group of students at Swarthmore College who wants to be protester and stole the possession of 15,000 e-mail messages and memos. It belongs to the Diebold Election Systems, which is the larger maker of electronic voting machines in the country. It contains the memos of the employee’s discussion of flaws in the company’s software and warnings that the computer network has the lack of security protected from hackers or crackers. Students got foul because of their actions from Digital Millennium Copyright Act. It was designed to protect the copyright material on the web, and it is possible for an internet service provider to be liable for the material posted by users. The aggrieved party “Diebold” threatens to sue an Internet service provider over the content of a subscriber’s Web site. Diebold charging the students with copyright infringement, and demand remove the materials from the students’ web page. After the incident, due the amounts of negative publicity for Diebold, the company agreed not to sue, and so to the delight of the student supporters, the memos are now back on their web site. There was another topic of this article of the term “Copy Left.” Copy Left is a play on the word copyright and describes the practice of using copyright law to remove restrictions on distributing copies and modified versions of a work for others and requiring that the same freedoms be preserved in modified versions. There is an example of the act of Copy Left is the mp3 format. The Copy Left sees the innovations like iTunes, which is easy to download music without paying. In the end Copy Left is harmless or not.

I think it is madness because people can hack into their computers and through internet. Internet can be dangerous because some criminals can hack to the user’s personal files such as social security numbers, credit card numbers, passwords, credit reports, and date of birth. But they have another way to steal from the outside such as ATM, phone numbers, mortgage numbers, and addresses. I think the criminals are just beginners because what do they know about hacking? They must have the programs they learn from the internet search from Google, it’s kind of obvious. I learn that the some companies cannot be trusted because it wasn’t protected well after the users give out their personal information. This article that involves with the terms of Cyber Bullies.

Cyber Bullies

The topic of this article I read is “National Cyber System,” it’s about dealing with cyber bullies who take advantage of technology to intimidate and harass their victims. Cyber bullies are the harassment on someone else using technology, like bullies harassing kids in school for example. Cyber bullies are like cruel to people using internet, which is teenagers and young adults are common victims. They use to be restricted to methods such as mail or telephone, but now it is the developments in electronic media offer forums such as e-mail, instant messaging, web pages, and digital photos. Cyber bullies threaten someone’s e-mail using threat message like racism, rude jokes, blackmail, and any threats that the cyber bullies does. Instant messaging is the problem and the cyber bullies advantages. Even a child can instant message, but it is dangerous because any children send message leads to the dangerous people such as pedophile pretends to make friends with children, and that is cyber bullying. Digital photo is also the cyber bullies advantages because it’s rude, for example, if your friend sends your embarrassing photo, that would be cyber bullying and blackmailing. Another example, if he or she send the naked pictures of themselves to some strangers, that’s also cyber bullying. Cyber bullies become such of problem because the internet is appealing to them. It enhances the intimidation and makes tracing the activity more difficult. Some bullies also find it to be easier to be more vicious because there is no contact information, but the internet and e-mail can increase the visibility of the activity. I will be worse to the victims because the information or pictures posted online or forwarded in mass e-mails can reach a larger audience faster. Because of the information available online, bullies would change target to the other victims. To protect from cyber bullies be careful where you post personal information, avoid escalating situation, document the activity, and report cyber bullying to the appropriate authorities.

After I’m reading this article, the internet becomes dangerous when the cyber bullies become the problem. I feel protected at home because I never have the instant message, but I sent messages in Facebook, Yahoo!, MySpace, and school e-mail. The one thing that bothers me that my Yahoo! Account has a lot of e-mails, and I think it is unsafe to concern from cyber bullies get a hold of my information. This is what I think about this article of cyber bullies.

Google as Big Brother

I read this article about Google as the Big Brother. This was about the history and facts about Google. The point of this article is Google is the dominant search engine among the others, such as Yahoo! Compare to the Yahoo! People didn’t rely or interest on Yahoo! search engine. Google is always reliable to people using search engine, for example, students use Google for homework, research, project, and etc. People search using Google, the results of the possibility at least ten thousands or more. Google was struggled with advertisement where little ads appear after being triggered by keyword searches, or by non-ad content of a web page. For example from this article, a search of Google Watch may show some ads on the right side of the screen for wrist watches. Because of Google making a lot of money, everyone wants a piece of this new wave in web advertising. Google had been dazzled by the income from advertising. Unlike the Yahoo! is less interested in pure search algorithms, than acquiring market share in pay for replacement or pay for inclusion revenue stream. Any public sectors, such as the .org, .edu, .gov domains that didn’t provide direct income, even if the web would be unattractive without them. Google was succeeded because of the notion of AltaVista to lose interest in improving their crawling and searching. To people Google is the best search engine all over internet, but the government will believe or rely on Google. There is the brief history that Google has not shown any inclination to declare for the rights of its users across the globe, as opposed to the rights of the spies in Washington who would love to have access to Google’s user data. Google Company never comments things about matters when the spies in Washington don’t talk about it and Congress has given new powers without debating. The called Google Watch which is the arguments about Google whenever there’s the situations about Google. People wouldn’t think Google is evil, but they believe the Google Company is struggling with their big decisions they make. That is the reason why Google was nominated by over 500 people for a Big Brother award in 2003.

I started to understand about how people relies on Google instead other search engines, such as Yahoo!, AskJeeves. At first, I thought Google and Yahoo! would be even, but I was wrong after I read the article or discussion from the author. And I didn’t know Google was involved with the government and the site Google Watch. I didn’t know there is such a site about what happens in Google, and when I search Google Watch it didn’t show any pictures of the watch according to this article. When I’m in Google Watch I see a lot of topics about Google. There is an interesting topic called Is Google God? I would think it is because there is the example of this article that people believe in Google Company and they nominated Google as Big Brother. This is what I think about the brief facts about Google.

This is the photo of New York, Chinatown from my trip. I like this picture because it was the great picture to show my friends that waht’s really like it here. This city is huge compare to the Boston, Chinatown, but any my favorite part of this town is shopping and sightseeing because they have the greatest shopping places. Street markets are my parent’s favorite because they often to buy food and souvernirs at the street markets.

Net neutrality proposal revived in Senate

I read this article about reintroducing the bill known as the Internet Freedom Preservation Act. The bill set up by Olympia Snowe and Byron Dorgan teamed up and attempt to revive the bill when the old version has been closed or expired from last year. The bill is also called the net neutrality. The net neutrality is the idea or some kind of the rules that the network operators should be prohibited from prioritizing any contents or services travel; for example, video. They tried to prevent any content use of the video, such as YouTube for extra charging. Also their legislation would bar network from blocking or degrading access to the internet contents and services. The bill’s condition offered by network company, AT&T on its merger with BellSouth. The telephone industry representatives was to decry the bill’s emergence. The bill was failed by an 11-11 vote since last year, it was mostly along party lines, with Democrats voting in favor. The result of the bill will be not assured victory.

This article is really confusing and understanding about renewing the bill to prohibit any content or services. I never thought that the YouTube was charged for extra fees fro the priviliges of being delivered fast. I think the bill is the bad idea that they should have the rights charge extra for premium placement on their network. In the end, the bill failed or zero percent chance to win. This is what I think of this article about the net neutrality.
